The Pentagon announced on Wednesday an additional $1.1 billion in military aid to Ukraine in the form of arms orders for the American defense industry, writes AFP.

The new aid, aimed at strengthening the country’s defenses in the medium and long term, includes 18 Himars, 150 Humvees, radars and anti-drone systems, the US Department of Defense said in a statement.

However, the equipment will be delivered to Kyiv only in a few months.

The new aid “demonstrates the commitment of the United States to continue supporting Ukraine in the long term,” the statement said.

This “represents a multi-year investment in critical capabilities for the sustainable strengthening of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which protect the sovereignty and territory of Ukraine from Russian aggression,” the Pentagon added.

The new tranche increases US military aid to Ukraine to $16.2 billion since the beginning of the Russian invasion of the country on February 24 and to $16.9 billion since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021.
