In Romania, there should be only two destinations for wood – energy and the furniture industry, and personally I would not export wood from the country, except in the form of a table, chair, bed or cabinet, – he said on Wednesday, at a specialized conference, the president of the Trade and Industry Chamber of Romania (CCIR) Mihai Daraban, reports Agerpres.
“No way (I would delete the number) in any other form. I’m also from Constanta and every weekend I look at what the port of Constanta looks like and it makes me a little sad to see the raw logs and even the wood we export,” he said.
Therefore, according to him, we must work very hard on this area of products with high added value, because we cannot in any way change the balance of trade in raw materials, regardless of whether we are talking about pulp or we are talking about agricultural products.
“If we don’t go to the processing side with high added value, with all due respect and with all regret, we will not balance the trade balance, especially since we are also looking at who is exporting to Romania. Probably, if it were not for foreign capital, there would be a “valley of complaints” about export performance in Romania. For better or for worse, foreign producers in Romania manage to keep Romanian exports at reasonable prices,” said Daraban.
The head of the CCIR estimates that Romania’s trade deficit will exceed 30 billion euros this year from 23.8 billion euros in 2021.
