As you know, not all cars are the same in terms of reliability. Some will last for tens of years and tirelessly cover several thousand kilometers, while others will fail prematurely. To be honest, there are no rules. But when a major breakdown happens to us, when the car has not even driven 100,000 kilometers, we must admit that it is still very infuriating. But that’s what happened to Philippe Tisserand, an Auto Plus reader who is currently engaged in a showdown with Alfa Romeo. In the latter, the engine of his Giulietta really failed at only 30,000 kilometers.

Replacement engine

In 2017, Philippe, who lives in Rosières-pre-Trois (10), bought his Italian compact car, registered only six months ago, with 5,000 kilometers on the odometer. Then it is equipped with an engine 1.4 MultiAir 170 TCT. Our owner is doing well until 2019. This year, the warning light comes on, and the car goes into degraded mode. Verdict from the garage: the problem is related to the candles. However, this happens again after a few months. The mechanics then ask Philip to wait until the phenomenon starts again. This is what finally happened. And this time it was decided to change the entire engine. A difficult and very expensive operation, since the bill is 10,294 euros!

Real showdowns

After several weeks of battle with customer service, Philip receives 72% coverage from Alfa Romeo. Except he still needs to pay €2,827. Unbelievable when the car is still almost new! Moreover, according to our experts, the engine block should work without worry for at least 300,000 kilometers. Thus, the manufacturer is responsible for all repairs, especially since the car is perfectly serviced by its owner!
