The an electrified version of the Peugeot 208 enjoy the welcome boost!

An update is required

Produced from November 2019, that is, only 5 months after the thermal version, the small city car Socho had a single, somewhat weak electric motor.

Indeed, with its 136 hp. (unit 100 kW) and a torque of 260 Nm, e-208 and its 1530 kg on the scales, due to the weight of the batteries, did not offer a very optimized compromise. We will remind, thermal versions just over a ton!

The same electric unit as on e-308

Therefore, the electric version of the small Peugeot uses a new electric motor, which has already announced the new e-308 and DS 3.

This one has a power of 115 kW (vs. 100 kW before), which increases the power from 136 to 156 hp. Maximum torque always 260 Nm. Finally, Peugeot indicates that the unit is supplied by the company Emotors, a joint venture between PSA and Japan’s Nidec.

Currently, the group does not name numbers from 0 to 100 km/h.

Better autonomy for e-208

Combined with the electric motor, an all-new battery completes the whole thing. It operates at 400 volts with a power output that varies slightly, ranging from 50 to 51 kWh (ie 48.1 useful kWh).

This is a good moment for autonomy, which is still developing. Last year it already gained 22 km, going from 340 to 362 km in the WLTP cycle.

With this new battery Peugeot promises almost 400 km, as before according to the WLTP cycle. This is 5 km more than the Zoé, which shows 395 km.

In fact, in a real cycle, autonomy should exceed 300 km. This will of course be confirmed by AutoPlus Lab during testing!

Finally it will be possible to switch from From 20% to 80% charge in less than 25 minutes.

This new version is expected to hit the market inhere next year.
