Dutch authorities have arrested a Romanian driver who was driving a truck used to transport a large cocaine shipment worth more than 190 million euros.

Dutch police stopped a truck near Barendrecht on Saturday after receiving information that a shipment of drugs from Belgium was on its way to the Netherlands, and were surprised when they opened the vehicle’s door.

“When the police opened the door of the truck, hundreds of blocks of cocaine fell out into the street,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The driver, a 27-year-old Romanian who was driving a truck with Belgian license plates, was detained and will be questioned on Tuesday, and a judge may extend his detention for 14 days.

Drugs with a total weight of 1,822 kilograms and a value of over 190 million euros were destroyed, the prosecutor’s office also reported.
