The US State Department said it sees no signs that China is preparing to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or help Moscow avoid sanctions, CNN reports.
“We are reviewing every piece of information we have,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said.
“We have yet to see anything that indicates that China is taking a different approach when it comes to security assistance, when it comes to efforts to systematically help Russia avoid sanctions,” he said.
Price said the U.S. “continues to monitor” what China is doing in Ukraine, and said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s comments indicated China has “some degree of concern about what Russia is doing in Ukraine.”
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Xi at the UN on Friday and “outlined the consequences if the PRC [Republica Populară Chineză] will provide support for Moscow’s invasion of a sovereign state,” the State Department report says.
China supports all efforts to peacefully resolve the “crisis” in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told the UN General Assembly on Saturday, adding that promoting peace talks is an urgent priority.
In his speech, Wang said the fundamental solution is to address the “legitimate security concerns of all parties.”
