
Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is holding a series of meetings with his counterparts in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Nikos Dendias’ today’s program of contacts began with a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart and continued with the foreign ministers of Tanzania, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mauritania, as well as with US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, he is also expected to meet with the Indian foreign ministers and the State Ministry of the United Arab Emirates for International Cooperation.
In particular, during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Nikos Dendias, he discussed the development of bilateral relations, the European perspective of Moldova, developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the region.
This was followed by the first meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Tanzania. During the meeting between Nikos Dendias and Liberat Moolamula, prospects for cooperation in the fields of health, tourism, maritime safety and protection of the marine environment based on mutual respect between Greece and Tanzania in UNCLOS were discussed.
After that, Nikos Dendias discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Boukhar Osmani, the implementation of the Prespa Agreement, cooperation in the energy sector, developments in the Western Balkans and Greece’s support for the European perspective of North Macedonia.
Later, the first meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Madagascar took place. Nikos Dendias and Richard James Randriamandrato discussed ways to strengthen bilateral political and economic relations and cooperation in the field of tourism, marine environment protection and within the UN, based on a common commitment to UNCLOS.
At a meeting with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Nikos Dendias discussed the situation in the Sahel, Western Sahara, challenges in Africa due to the war in Ukraine and cooperation between the two countries, including the possible provision of scholarships to Mauritanian officers.
During the meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Ukraine were discussed, and Nikos Dendias was also briefed on the UN Security Council discussion on Ukraine.
In addition to personal contacts, Nikos Dendias will take part in the ministerial session of the Forum of Ancient Civilizations and in the Transatlantic Dinner with the participation of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
