According to the quoted source, visas were revoked for journalists who were “improperly reported” as officials, citing Romania’s national security among the reasons.

“The decision of the competent authorities of Romania, based, among other things, on considerations related to the national security of Romania, which led to the cancellation of some visas, concerned only 14 journalists of Russia Today, who were wrongfully notified by the Russian Federation. as officials of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of Russia,” the IAE said in a statement.

In this way, the Romanian Ministry responds to the comment of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation regarding the cancellation by the Embassy of Romania in Moscow of visas issued to persons appointed by the Russian Federation as its official delegates to the Conference of Plenipotentiaries. of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which takes place in Bucharest from September 26 to October 14.

“Thus, taking into account the aspects already stated, it is clear that the decision made did not in any way affect the participation and representation of the interests of the Russian Federation at the ITU Conference in Bucharest, the accusation of the Russian side that this event will affect the chances of the Russian candidate to be elected to a leadership position in the organization are completely absurd and clearly unfounded,” the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania note.
