Romania only drew with Finland (1:1) and remains in last place in Group 3 of Division B of the Nations League. After the match in Helsinki, the selector Edi Iordenescu said that he noticed a change in the mood of the players and spoke about a possible departure from the bench of the national team.

Edi Iordenescu is pleased with the development of the tricolor, but disappointed with the result

“I was preparing for the match to win. Unfortunately, the June period has forced us to assume this at the risk of harshness. We started the game with an average age of 26, a young team, so we have kept some fixed moments, young and very young players have come along the way and I want to prepare the team for the future. I didn’t win, but I think I got a mindset for the future.

I think we have shown that we can get a result and that gives us hope. I liked that the players showed character. We scored from a kick which was their only chance in the first half. We need to analyze but it was a big setback when we went 0-1 down at half-time. After the conceded ball we reacted well, we had circulation, we took turns, we brought the ball into the opponent’s third and we had some clear situations, we deserved to go to the break with a different result.

It’s nice that the team was looking for a goal in the second half, didn’t concede, that’s why we scored. I’m happy that the game looked different, we had more personality, we had possession with better progression, we had an 88% passing accuracy, that says something and gives us confidence that we created a lot of chances.

At the end of the match we could have lost, but you have to know that we also took risks. We changed our attack looking for 3 points but now we are paying for what the period in June meant.

I don’t think any player can be singled out for lack of spirit, I’m trying to revive everything that means vitality. If the results were a little better in the summer, now there was a different excitement. I believe in the team’s potential and that in a relatively short time we will be able to raise our level,” – Edi Jordanescu on Antenna 1.

Is Edi Yordenescu leaving the national team? The match with Bosnia can be decisive

Jordenescu said patience is needed for the team to come together, but he said he will leave the national team bench if the world is not satisfied with the results.

“I’ve been unlucky since I arrived, I’ve had a lot of misses, Janis, Stanchiu, Mykhailo, Kristea, Dennis Man. If we have a full squad and important players fit, we can look better than what we showed in June and what we showed tonight.

Let’s wait for the last game, with Bosnia, after which we will draw a line and make an objective analysis. A lot of injustice was done to me, from the first act there was already talk of my departure, there are things that are unnatural. I am not asking for a lot of time, but I am asking for trust and patience not for me, but for the team.

We need to find each other. If we fail to show what everyone expects, then my interests are not important, but the interests of the national team” – Edi Jordanescu.
