People’s Movement Party (PMP) President Eugen Tomak said on Friday in Tirgu Mures that his party is not interested in any merger with any party, and that he has rejected the National Liberal Party’s proposal to do so, reports Agerpres.

“I set out to silence all the rumors and political speculation that there were: PMP is not interested in any merger. PNL was knocking on the door of PMP and wanted to swallow PMP, but we were not interested in this proposal. I declined, and obviously we’re going alone. There were other parties who were knocking on our door for dialogue. We are open with everyone, but obviously, as far as political constructions are concerned, they must respect, first of all, the political position of the party, which derives from the mandate we receive from the members,” said Eugene Tomak at a press conference.

The PMP leader said that in the future there is a need for a construction that the PMP is ready to make, an authentic right, a construction “that will stop the wave of populism that has swept Romanian society.”
