The traditional consecration at the beginning of the school year was once again held this year with pomp in the courtyards of schools throughout the territory. Not at all. in Special Vocational Education Laboratory (EEEEK) Cordelio, in Thessaloniki, the metropolitan blessed the students, children with special needs, parents and teachers on the asphalt of the adjacent road, in the absence of a yard. For the purposes of the celebration, the police stopped the movement of vehicles, and the Metropolitan of Naples Barnabas blessed in the presence of the mayor of Cordelios-Evosmos Kleantis Mandalianos and the person in charge of the construction of school infrastructure, students and teachers. With the event over, the students and teachers returned to the “hole,” as they call their school, to begin their classes.
EEEEK Kordelio, with 24 teachers and administrative staff and 35 students, has been living on the rented ground floor of an apartment building for 16 years, the tenants of which do not need them. The “rooms” are ventilated… by skylights, since there are no windows, children are not allowed to play and it is forbidden to go out onto the sidewalk in order to avoid accidents from passing cars. What do they do during breaks? They roam the corridors.
The decision was made to move EEEEK to another school building, but according to the mayor, this is due to the reaction of parents of other schools located there. At the consecration ceremony, the mayor expressed his concern about the situation and acknowledged that the particular building “is also not suitable for mice.” “I do not hide from you that I am ashamed to appear before you, because last year at the same place I promised that the consecration would take place in another place. Unfortunately, there are strong reactions even in the underground, so that the cohabitation plan is not implemented under the pretext that children from the other two cohabitation schools cannot be accommodated,” he said. However, he assured current parents, teachers and students , which is in open contact with the Ministry of Education and “resettlement procedures are in their final stages and are expected to be completed in the fall.”
