NEXSD Automotive Innovations is a subsidiary of SD Automotive: this German company presented a new prototype of an innovative streamlined motorhome at the Recreational Vehicle Show in Dusseldorf: NEXSD is one. According to the German body manufacturer, this model predicts ultra-light houses on wheels of the future.
NEXSD One is streamlined motor home is based on the Volkswagen Crafter car and has a length of 6.90 meters. Its appearance is quite restrained, but its main advantage is hidden in what is not necessarily visible at first glance.
NEXSD One: ultra-light body
In fact, the model has a aluminum body, as well as a cellular structure made of the same ultralight material, part of which is recycled. In addition to reducing weight, aluminum is also stronger than steel and provides greater safety in the event of an accident.
While the NEXSD One has a gross weight of 3.5 tonnes, its curb weight is 2.14 tonnes, a 235kg advantage over the Crafter L4H4 on which it is based. The total load capacity is about 700 kg, which is a feat for this type of car.
NEXSD One: the smart backdoor
The NEXSD One also stands out with smart features like this large trunk 117 cm wide and 176 cm high located at the rear: this makes loading easier or provides convenient access to the rear of the car.
Onboard fittings are provided by Vansformers, a German start-up that specializes in outfitting vans and motorhomes. At the rear is a sitting room with a bench facing the front that converts to a double bed 198×200 cm. Second double bed 185×200 cm also hides in the pavilion, which comfortably accommodates four people.
NEXSD One: Many devices
There is also a bathroom in the center, as well as a kitchen set equipped with induction hobs and a Dometic refrigerator for 51 liters. The tanks can carry 115 liters of clean water and 80 liters of waste water, while the 400Ah LiFePo4 batteries can be charged via solar panels placed on the roof. Two 2000 W diesel heaters also complete its equipment.
NEXSD wants to produce its ultra-light mobile home in the near future and is currently looking for industrial partners to do so. And even though the German company hasn’t yet announced a price for its NEXSD One, it’s a safe bet that it won’t come cheap, since aluminum is a more expensive material than steel.
