Bohdan Badya, president of the “Hydroelectricity” directorate, said that the state-owned company recently faced an influx of about 5,000 new customers. Now there are 300,000 customers, which is three times more than last year, Agerpres notes.
- “The price offered by Hidroelectrica is competitive, this is due to the fact that we are also producers of electricity. We are trying in these moments of crisis to offer end consumers a final price that will allow them to carry out their activities, if we are talking about the commercial sphere, and to be able to better manage their personal budget, if we are talking about domestic clients. Any changes, situations that can cause panic, create additional pressure on everything that means computer systems.
- We face an influx of 5,000 customers per day, which means a very high pressure on the software infrastructure, but at the same time we are developing this area and trying to take on as many customer requests as possible (…) Last year we had about 100,000 consumers, now there are about 300,000 of them,” Bohdan Badya, co-rapporteur of the energy decree, said on Wednesday at the Economic Commission in the Senate.
He noted that Hidroelectrica cannot cover the entire consumption of Romania, the production capacity is 14-17 TWh.
“It was a difficult period (without drought), we are not facing such situations for the first time. I say we’ve overcome that, the outlook is starting to look better than it did in the summer, and for sure our focus will be on the end consumer. We have over 300,000 residential customers and many industrial customers. But Hidroelectrica with 14-17 TWh cannot cover Romania’s consumption, which is somewhere around 57 TWh,” said Badea.
The president of the Hidroelektrica Directorate noted that there is “an opportunity to offer customers without having energy in the portfolio, which the authorities have been warned about.”
- “The current mechanism for obtaining a supply license does not provide that if you make an offer, you must also have the energy behind it, which has led to the insolvency of the relevant suppliers during periods of crisis, and customers have suffered losses because they have to go to the most expensive area. We proposed (…) to provide predictability for producers who need investment during this period, as well as for customers.
- It is a competitive market where producers and suppliers with a significant number of customers can participate to be sure that the energy reaches them and there will be no more contracting problems,” Badea added.
According to a document on Hidroelectrica’s website, depending on the region where the electricity is supplied, one kWh costs between 0.68 and 0.77 lei.
