Tour operators advise Russians who plan to go on vacation to have a sufficient supply of cash, especially after some Turkish banks began to stop transactions with Russian Mir cards, and shops also refuse to pay with such cards, – reports the Ukrainian agency RBC with reference to the Association’s data travel operators, writes Rador.

Turkey’s two largest banks no longer allow Mir cardholders to withdraw pounds from ATMs. As a result, Russians visiting Turkey, a very popular destination among Russians, are finding it increasingly difficult to find an ATM where they can withdraw cash.

According to the Turkish media, two large banks of Turkey – İş Bankası and DenizBank – have already stopped working with the Russian “Mir” cards, the reason for which were the sanctions imposed on the head of the “Mir” payment system Volodymyr Komlev.

In stores where there are terminals of these banks, it is no longer possible to pay, so Russian tourists can no longer pay for the goods they would like to purchase. The number of such outlets that do not accept payment with the Russian “Mir” card is growing rapidly, RBC notes.

Five banks in Turkey accepted Mir card transactions. At the moment, three banks continue to accept such payments, Halkbank, Ziraat Bankası and VakıfBank, although the latter periodically encounters various errors when making payments with Mir cards.

Tourists from Russia, who continue to rest in Turkey, are advised by tour operators to take cash with them – euros and dollars. They are also offered to pay for their vacation before departure, especially in all-inclusive hotels in Antalya, and in Istanbul at least with breakfast.

RBC reminds that the USA and the EU have increased pressure on Turkey so that Russia could not circumvent Western sanctions through the Turkish banking sector.

Sanctions were also announced against banks that work with the “Mir” payment system. Now experts fear that Turkish aviation will be the next target of sanctions. In this case, airlines will be prohibited from flying to the Russian Federation, and Turkey will have to comply with the sanctions imposed on Russian carriers.
