Starting in 2020, things are really not looking good in the car market. To make matters worse, it is even experiencing a catastrophic situation: from the Covid-19 epidemic, the shortage of semiconductors or even the war in Ukraine, which has caused many supply problems and even the closure of some factories. This complicates production and creates delays that discourage customers from buying new cars. Not to mention that the increase in prices and inflation in general did not make motorists particularly eager to change their car. This explains the free-falling numbers for several months. But it would seem that the situation can finally improve. Indeed, sales even increased slightly!

A small increase

According to data fromACEA, the association of European car manufacturers, new car sales did increase slightly, by about 4.4% in Europe. Of course, it is not much, but it is still a very encouraging sign of recovery. Moreover, the indicators have been falling for thirteen months in a row, sometimes very sharply. In total, at least 650,305 units were registered in August. An encouraging figure, but it remains significantly lower than the one registered before health crisis. If in France the growth was 3.8%, then in Italy this growth was the strongest, about 9.9%.

More effort

According to the European organization, sales of new cars since the beginning of the year still fell by 11.9% compared to the same period last year. Despite the fact that 2021 was not a very lucky year for the car. In total, six million cars were sold, which is 2 times less 18.4% for Italy, 13.8% for France and 9.8% for Germany. Hopefully things will improve over the next few months!
