Problems for the “Turkish minority” in Thrace

It is noted that the deputy from SYRIZA gave an interview to the Turkish channel “A Khaber” a few days ago, where, in particular, he said: “We are not worried, we are not afraid. In our just struggle, we will continue to defend the rights of our people, the Turkish minority of Western Thrace, to the end.”
At the same time, he spoke of “great tensions” between Greece and Turkey and a “tense atmosphere” over the election of a pseudo-mufti in Xanthi, as well as threats he had received in the past from the Golden Dawn. In addition, Mr. Zeybek reported that a Greek citizen had recently threatened to kill him during a live broadcast.
Katrugalos Statement – ND Reaction
Some time ago, the head of the Foreign Ministry, K.O. SYRIZA, George Katrugalosissued a statement on the matter stating that the Treaty of Lausanne clearly states that there is a Muslim minority in Greece.
“Obviously, people of Turkish, Pomak and Gypsy origin belong to it, and they have the right to self-determination in accordance with national and European legislation,” he notes.
“A very clear and serious point was made about the minority in Mr. Ceybeck., but also for the fact that he addressed the Turkish channel on this issue. Our position on Turkish interference in the internal affairs of Greece is clear,” he said.
At the same time, Mr. Katrugalos emphasizes that it is unacceptable to hear threats against the life of a Member of Parliament.
