Bucharest could host the major tournament starting in 2024 and Ion Cyriac is talking about the ATP 500 license he holds.
Ion Cyriac wants to host the ATP 500 tournament in Bucharest
The capital has been without an ATP tournament since 2016, when the last edition of the “250” competition took place, which took place every April in Kotrocheny, at the BNR arena.
Ion Cyriac says his goal is to host the ATP 500 tournament in Bucharest.
“I would like to say that the tournament from Belgrade, which will be there next year, is returning to Bucharest from 2024. Well, this is my tournament. I have a contract with them until next year, but they are not renewing it.
But in 2024, I don’t know where to play it. I also have a tournament in Geneva and my goal would be to leave 500 (No. 500 ATP) in Bucharest,” – Ion Cyriac in an interview with gsp.ro.
According to the businessman, there are two ATP licenses (for 250 and 500) that can be taken to Romania. The only problem is the location: there is no such complex in Bucharest, and in Cluj-Napoca, at the moment, only a closed tournament can be organized (at the BT Arena).
Currently, there are 13 “500” tournaments in one season on the ATP circuit. Barcelona, Dubai, Halle and Basel are among the most representative.
