The annual inflation rate rose to 15.3% in August from 14.96% in July, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics.

Consumer prices in August 2022 compared to July 2022 increased by 0.6%.

The inflation rate since the beginning of the year (August 2022 to December 2021) is 11.6%.

The average rate of change of consumer prices for the last 12 months (September 2021 – August 2022) compared to the previous 12 months (September 2020 – August 2021) is 11.0%.

The new forecast of the National Bank foresees inflation of 15.1% at the end of the third quarter of the current year and 13.9% at the end of the year.

The estimate for the first quarter of 2023 is 11.6%, for the second quarter – 13.8%, for the third quarter – 8.9%, for the end of 2023 – 7.5%.

Regarding the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the month of August, a measure of inflation at the level of EU member states, the INS data shows that:

  • The August 2022 to July 2022 Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices is 100.44%.
  • The annual inflation rate in August 2022 compared to August 2021, calculated on the basis of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), is 13.3%.
  • The HIPC-based average rate of change in consumer prices over the last 12 months (September 2021 – August 2022) compared to the previous 12 months (September 2020 – August 2021) is 9.5%.
