Turkish aggression was on the agenda of the Prime Minister’s meeting Kyriakou Mitsotakis with the French Foreign Minister Ekaterina Column in Maxim’s palace.

The Prime Minister briefed Ms. Colonna on the escalation of Turkish aggression and provocations, as well as the threats from the lips of officials regarding the sovereignty of Greece, stressing that the neighboring country is causing tension, undermining security and stability in the region.

He stressed that Greece was a pillar of stability in the wider region and reaffirmed the need for dialogue based on the principles of international law, including the law of the sea, and good neighborliness.

At the same time, the Prime Minister briefed Ms. Kolonas on the measures taken by the government to overcome the energy crisis and reiterated the need for a coordinated European response to this serious challenge.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the important opportunities that Greece offers for EU energy security. and independence from Russian energy sources as a strategic energy hub. The latest events in Ukraine were also discussed.

“Threats from a NATO ally are unacceptable”

The Prime Minister also sent a clear message to Ankara during his meeting with Slovak President Zuzana Kaputova. According to Maximos’s statement, Mr. Mitsotakis confirmed that Greece’s permanent position is dialogue based on international law, international maritime law and good neighborly relations.

He also stressed that it is unacceptable for Greece to receive threats, up to the questioning of the sovereignty of Greece, from a country that is a NATO ally.

The French official stressed that Turkey’s doubts about the sovereignty of Greece raise questions and require open channels of communication between the two “allied and neighboring countries.” In any case, he emphasized that Paris would support Athens “whenever Greek sovereignty is questioned and that will not change.”
