
Charles III was officially crowned king on Sunday in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, where the funeral cortege carrying the remains of his mother Elizabeth II from Balmoral Castle is expected to arrive in the evening.
The new monarch, aged 73, was officially proclaimed king in Cardiff (Wales) – during a small protest, according to the Spanish news agency EFE, quoted by Agerpres – and in Belfast (Northern Ireland), after the first and main proclamation that took place on Saturday in London.
This first text read in England, which commemorates the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the succession to the throne by her firstborn, is identical to the text read on Sunday at public ceremonies in the other three countries of the United Kingdom, which were followed by military parades and 21 gun salutes.
Edinburgh is awaiting the arrival of the late sovereign’s funeral cortege, which has already passed through the city of Aberdeen, is due to cross Dundee to arrive in the Scottish capital at around 16:00 local time (18:00 Romanian).
On Monday, Charles III will lead a procession from the royal residence of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh to nearby St Giles’ Cathedral for a religious service.
Before the coffin arrives in London on Tuesday, the King and Queen Camilla, accompanied by British Chief Executive Liz Truss, will travel to Belfast and then to Wales for Elizabeth II’s state funeral on September 19.
