Britain: Unprecedented baptism of fire for Liz Truss – death of a queen

One 48 hours after taking office as Prime Minister Britannia, Liz Trusswas found floating in uncharted waters after her death Queen Elizabeth II‘ after seven decades on the throne.

Prime Minister Truss met with King Charles III this afternoon, hours before the new monarch’s first speech was broadcast.

For the first time in its history, Britain changes monarch and prime minister in the same week: the unprecedented baptism of fire of new head of government Liz Truss. Over the years, every British Prime Minister has had time to prepare for the possible death of the Queen. Liz Truss missed the opportunity as she was formally appointed by Elizabeth II two days before the Queen’s death.

The latest official photos of Queen Elizabeth II show the meeting she had on Tuesday with Boris Johnson’s successor at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

From the moment she became prime minister, Liz Truss knew she would not have a grace period. Hours before her death, the Queen presented a plan to Parliament to rid households and businesses of rising electricity costs. The debate was interrupted at noon when a note was discreetly handed to the British head of government announcing that the Queen’s health was deteriorating rapidly.

Liz Truss was informed of the Queen’s death at around 4:30 p.m. (local time – 6:30 p.m. Greek time), two hours before Buckingham Palace officially announced it.

This was the 15th appointment as Prime Minister of Queen Elizabeth II in her 70 years on the throne. The first was from Winston Churchill and the last from Liz Truss last Tuesday.
