After last week’s Dutch Grand Prix, Mattia Binotto labeled Japanese Alpha Tauri driver Yuki Tsunoda a “tsunami” as the Japanese is known to have caused several crashes during his career at the Grand Circus.

“When the tsunami (nr Tsunoda) hit, I thought the danger was gone, but it wasn’t…” – Mattia Binotto according to the Dutch MP.

However, Binotto was heavily criticized for the word he used, especially given that Japan has been hit by tsunamis in recent decades.

Matthias Binotto apologized for comparing pilot Yuki Tsunoda to a tsunami

In Monza this weekend, Binotto wanted to apologize for the word used to compare Tsunoda.

“I definitely have to apologize. I used the wrong word. It was not my intention to offend or mock the victims of these extreme weather events.

I think Tsunoda is a fantastic driver, a great person and I have a good relationship with him. I just wanted to make a joke, but it was bad” – Mattia BinottoReuters reports.
