Various aspects of Athens as we race past through three unconventional films. Eve Stephaniehis black and white Corfu Nikos Panagiotopoulos in “Melodrama” and vice versa, a colorful island from the film “The Countess of Corfu”, but also the secret that he hides in his “Fedora” Billy Wilder. Kinetta through his lens George Lanthimos and Lamia, presented Giannis Oikonomidis.
These are just some of the free views “Landmarks“, an initiative aimed at highlighting the connection between Greek films and the places where they were filmed, as well as establishing close ties between these films, which left history in cinema, and the audience.
How will this be achieved? Thanks to the road trip organized by Union of Directors and Producers of Greek Cinema (ESPEK)from from 10 to 23 September. More precisely, a self-propelled car with the necessary equipment becomes a mobile summer cinema that crosses most of the country, exploring the areas where Greek films were “born”.
On the journey of the seventh art, which starts from the Peloponnese and reaches Macedonia and from Corfu to the center of Athens, “passenger” viewers will see both classic and more modern feature films and documentaries. The program is polyphonic and full of changes in seasons, genres and themes.
During these 10 stops, vision Sofia Georgovasilis, Nikos Nikolopoulos, George Nucia, George Furtounis and Angelos Francis is the development of a dialogue between the work and the corresponding representation. Through the eyes of each creator, places become part of the narrative, resulting in the end revealing their view of life itself.
And as the car stops in different regions and meets cinephiles, the adventure will be the basis for a short documentary film about the summer in a self-driving car and the relationship between films and places.
