Prices and features

Prices for the iPhone 14 in the US start at $799, and for the iPhone 14 Plus (with a 6.7-inch screen) – from $899. Both can be ordered from September 9, but shipments start on different dates: September 16 for the iPhone 14 and October 7 for the iPhone 14 Plus.

Apple also did not release a successor to the iPhone 13 mini, so this is no longer a new iPhone with a screen less than 6 inches. The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen.

The iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1,099. They can be ordered from September 9, and delivered from September 16. The Pro models have a redesigned design, always-on screens and a 48MP camera sensor. The iPhone 14 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen, while the Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models use the A15 Bionic processor, which is also found in the iPhone 13, while the top-of-the-line 14 Pro and Pro Max models have the new A16 Bionic.

Satellite communication and accident detection

For the first time, an iPhone has a connection to communication satellites, so in emergency situations and in isolated places where there is no mobile network, the antenna of the iPhone 14 can connect to satellites and users can send short emergency messages to find them.

The new iPhones also have crash detection, and if the phones detect that the owner has been involved in a serious car accident, they can automatically call emergency services. The phone can detect that a serious accident has occurred with the help of gyroscope, accelerometer and sensors.

Apple’s YouTube channel, which streamed the launch live, had 1.5 million viewers at 8:00 p.m. when the conference began. At 9:00 p.m., when Apple started talking about the iPhone, there were over 2.5 million viewers, and at 9:20 p.m., over 3 million.

The iPhone 14 has a more powerful processor, a battery with better autonomy and a better camera.

Some numbers

The release of the iPhone 14 comes at a difficult economic time, with high inflation, rising prices for everything, and people fearing high electricity bills in the winter.

Apple sells more than 200 million iPhones worldwide annually, and the average phone price has increased by more than $150 since the fall of 2020, when Apple’s first 5G phones debuted on the iPhone 12.
