Further Strengthening Its Critical Sector healthcare is one of her priorities government and the relevant preliminary work has already been done, so that the relevant announcements will be included in what the prime minister says Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the end of the week in Thessaloniki, in the context of his presence at TEF. The recruitment procedures for approximately 4,000 nurses at all levels of education – university, technological, secondary, as well as the recruitment of a total of 700 doctors in hospitals across the country have already been launched. In addition, recruitment procedures for an additional 910 staff are currently under way.

As mentioned in this regard, strengthening the public health system is among the government’s top priorities, as its resilience has been tested by the pandemic over the past three years. Strengthening with additional human resources is considered imperative as fatigue has accumulated, gaps have arisen due to mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations, and gaps have been identified in medical staff in critical specialties such as anesthesiologists.

At the same time, given the workload and extremely difficult conditions during the pandemic, a number of hospitals are seeing an increase in staff layoffs.

According to the plan of the government and the Ministry of Health, it is expected that additional announcements will be issued by mid-October, and immediately after that the deadline for expressing interest “goes”. The goal is to recruit no later than the start of winter, when the burden on the health care system is expected to increase due to both the coronavirus, as the possibility of outbreaks is still a concern, and the flu. , as this is already a high number of cases for the season.

Health Ministry sources say a thorough prioritization is underway to address the most critical gaps where the most serious disruptions to the public health system are seen. The goal is to normalize the situation and reduce the workload, especially in the nodal health centers serving a large number of patients.
