French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna on Monday in Turkey expressed concern about the “circumvention” of sanctions against Russia, calling on as many countries as possible to join them to defeat Moscow, notes Agerpres with reference to AFP.
“The sanctions policy that we are pursuing (…) has one goal, which is the following: to limit the resumption of Russian military efforts and to make Russia understand that it has chosen a dead end, and therefore in this context it is important that as many countries as possible send the same message,” the head of French diplomacy said during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Ankara.
“It is important to take a closer look at the issue of sanctions evasion,” she added before a working dinner with Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
Turkey maintains good relations with both Moscow and Kyiv. If it supplied Kiev with military drones, it refused to join the Western sanctions imposed on Russia after the start of its offensive in Ukraine.
Last month, Washington warned Turkish companies and institutions that trade with Russia, citing possible retaliatory measures.
According to official data, Turkish exports to Russia from May to July increased by almost 50% compared to last year.
