
WITH the price is 29,900 euros, Sono Motors Sion announces itself as the world’s first affordable solar electric car. The production version of the model was presented to the public this summer with new front and rear lights, redesigned sides and a new trunk lid compared to the initial prototype.
In early September 2022, its manufacturer Sono Motors, a German startup from Munich, announced that it had already registered more than 20,000 bookingswith an average down payment of around 2,000 euros.
Sono Motors Sion: Free Energy!
The model has a non-standard appearance, the case is almost complete covered with solar panels : indeed, it combines 456 semi-solar cells, and Sono Motors promises that daily trips can be made almost for free!
In practice, the model has a battery with a capacity of 54 kWh, which provides it with a range of approx 305 kilometers. Solar panels allow the generation of energy to extend this autonomy: in practice, they allow 112 additional kilometers to be driven per week, and up to 245 additional kilometers in the best climatic conditions.

Sono Motors Sion: big savings
According to the German start-up, for urban use with Sono Motors Sion, customers will have to charge their vehicle four times less often than a conventional electric car, which will save a lot of money. The model is compatible with fast charging a maximum power 75 kW (direct current) or 11 kW (alternating current).
To go further, a bidirectional charging interface is also present: it allows you to turn Sion into a real solar power station for powering all types of electronic devices.
Sono Motors Sion: Production will begin in 2023
The start of production of Sono Motors Sion will take place in the second half of 2023 in Finland, thanks to Sono Motors’ partner, Valmet Automotive: this Finnish company has extensive experience in the production of high-tech vehicles.
