“Milan” – “Inter” (“Derby della Madonnina”) represents one of the most famous and heated football competitions in the world.

The story begins in 1899, when a group of English expatriates founded AC Milan Cricket and Football Club (later simply AC Milan), one of the first clubs in Italy.

Nine years later, in 1908, disagreements among the club’s members over the transfer of foreign players caused a split that led to the creation of Internazionale Milano.

For this reason, “Inter” became known as the representative of the bourgeoisie and industrialists, while “Milan” was often associated with the working class.

The first match between the two teams took place on October 18, 1908 in Chiasso, Switzerland, and Milan won 2-1. Each of the rivals won 19 titles.

The match is called the “Derby della Madonnina” in honor of one of the main attractions of the city, the gilded statue of the Virgin Mary, which stands on top of the Cathedral of Milan (“Santa Maria Nascente”, the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese). often called Madonnina (no – “Little Madonna”, in Italian).

AC Milan come into the city derby unbeaten this season with eight points from four matches (two wins and two draws).

Compared to last season, the most valuable acquisition of the team coached by Stefano Pioli this summer is Charles De Quetelere (21) from Club Brugge for €32 million.

Inter Milan has nine points, three wins and one loss.

At the moment, “Milan” and “Inter” have met in 232 official matches. “Inter” has 75 victories, “Milan” – 64. Andriy Shevchenko has the most goals scored in the derby, 14.
