Belgium yesterday announced a package of measures to combat rising energy prices, such as reducing electricity consumption in public buildings.
At the same time, the government has proposed taxing the windfall profits of energy companies such as Engie and TotalEnergies.
Prime Minister Alexander de Croo said the thermostat in public buildings would be set to 19 degrees during the winter and the use of air conditioners would be limited.
In offices and buildings, the lights will go out at 19.00.
The federal government has also decided to extend the reduced 6% VAT rate on natural gas and electricity.
Finally, special prices for the poorest households will remain in effect until the end of the first quarter of 2023.
