The head of the Department of Emergency Situations, Dr. Raed Arafat, is sending calm regarding a possible nuclear disaster at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, pointing out that this power plant is located far from Romania. Arafat emphasizes that in the event of a nuclear incident, “there is no problem” that the population will not receive “correct information with correct indications.”
“At the moment, what I can tell you is that the world should remain calm, quiet, Zaporozhye is far from Romania, and here, including from CNCAN, information was given that there is no immediate danger, since the distance is great, let it have a great impact per population of Romania. Of course, each situation is evaluated individually, but this is not about what is near Romania,” Raed Arafat told Euronews Romania on Friday evening.
He revealed that in the event of a nuclear disaster, “he won’t know about it for 10 days”, stressing that there is “no problem” that the public is not getting “the right information with the right readings”.
