According to his statement, the Minister of Migration Policy and Asylum provides evidence showing inconsistencies in the case of 38 migrants on the island of Evros. Notis MitarakisProsecutor of the Supreme Court Isidoros Dogiakos.
The purpose of the minister’s visit today to the country’s first-class prosecutor is for the judiciary to take responsibility and consider all these elements in order to establish whether criminal acts were committed by any of the persons who could be involved in this case.
The Minister for Migration Policy and Asylum walked past the doors of the Supreme Court at 12 noon and said in a statement:
“We all watched the incident with 38 migrants who, according to them, were trapped on an island in Turkish territory. These people, as is known, were discovered on the territory of Greece on August 14, on August 15 they were discovered by the Greek police and taken to the KYUT police station, where they applied for asylum. Whether they have the right to stay in Greece or the European Union will be decided by the asylum office. In addition, if the offenses were committed by themselves, but mostly by third parties, this must be considered by the court. That is why I asked to meet today with the prosecutor of the Supreme Court to present him with the inconsistencies that have come to light in the course of the case so far. The most important thing, as I said in the Chamber, is that the family that said that a five-year-old child died, which, of course, touched us all, apparently said that it consisted of four children, who were all safe in our country. .
Subsequently, Mr. Mitarakis referred to other cases, stating in particular that “it was also stated that there were people with health problems in the group, this was not confirmed.”
As he noted in conclusion: “There are various questions, there is information about the involvement of third parties. I will present all this to the judge, and from that moment on, the case is up to the court.”
