The decision of the European Union to completely suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia “ridiculous,” the Kremlin commented today.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that Moscow is now considering options for a response.
“This is bad for the Russians because it will take longer and it will be more difficult to issue visas,” Peskov commented. “This is another ridiculous decision in an ongoing series of ridiculous ones,” he added.
A Kremlin spokesman warned that Russia would respond with appropriate measures, explaining that the EU’s decision “would complicate matters for the Europeans as well” and that Moscow would respond “what is best in its interests.”
EU foreign ministers agreed yesterday to put this deal on hold with Russia entirely due to its invasion of Ukraine, meaning Russians will have to wait longer and pay more for visas.
The Baltic and Nordic countries are pushing for a total ban on issuing visas to Russian tourists wishing to enter the EU.
“Europe obstructs the work of Gazprom”
At the same time Peskov accused the EU that it creates obstacles for the work of the Russian energy giantGazprom a day after the company announced the suspension of natural gas supplies to Europe due to repair work on the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
The Kremlin spokesman explained that the situation with Nord Stream was complicated and that Moscow’s problems with finding equipment to service it were related to the sanctions against it.
