The Timisoara Society announced on Thursday evening that it was withdrawing the “Alexandra Indrijes” award given to former journalist Robert Turcescu in 2005. The decision came after Turcescu attended the wedding of AUR leader George Simion and after “increasing intimacy”. positions of the AUR ideology,” News.ro reports.
Members of the Timisoara Society express their disappointment that Robert Turcescu expressed “sympathy for an extremist leader”.
“The Timișoara Society has drawn attention with concern and sadness to the positions increasingly approaching the AUR ideology of Mr. Robert Turcescu, winner of the 2005 “Alexandra Indriesh” award.
Mr. Turcescu’s attendance at the AUR leader’s wedding was an unexpected and disappointing opportunity to discover that Mr. Turcescu had expressed, covertly and overtly, his sympathies for an extremist leader and an extremist political formation, which are the antithesis of the values espoused by the Timisoara Society. Such behavior, unacceptable to us, reinforces the stupor created by his self-incrimination in 2014, left in the toxic ambiguity of being an undercover officer,” Societatea Timişoara said in a press release.
After these facts, the Society of Timisoara revokes the award given to the journalist in 2005.
“Taking all of this into account, the Timisoara Society announces that it is withdrawing the “Alexandra Indriesh” award from Mr. Robert Turcescu and calls on him to make the necessary changes to his resume. In order not to once again mislead people who truly believe in the values of democracy,” the statement also reads.
Among the founding members of the Society are such high-profile names as Daniel Vigi, Marcel Tolcha, and Claudio Iordake.
