At the age of 48, Pelici will lead the representative national team of juniors born on January 1, 2004 in the qualifying campaign for the 2023 European Championship.

Alexandru Pelici, who was last on the bench at Mioveni, with whom he won promotion to the first league, began his coaching career in 2003 at Uniria Alba Iulia. His track record includes two more promotions with Voynac Sibiu and Hermannstadt, with the latter even playing in the Romanian Cup final in 2018 when the team played in Ligue 2!

“It is a great honor for me to represent the Romanian national team in this new role as U19 coach. It’s a challenge for me, especially since the first qualifiers are coming soon, but I will use all my experience to create a united group with which we can achieve the results we want.” Pelici said.

Romania’s U19 national team will play in the EURO 2023 qualifying group this month, along with Latvia, Lithuania and Austria. The top two teams qualify for the Elite Tour along with the 3rd place team from the 13 groups with the best results against the top two teams.

From 2023, only 7 representatives will qualify for the final tournament in Malta together with the host country.

Here is the schedule of qualifiers for this month:

Latvia – Romania / Wednesday, September 21, 20:00

Romania – Lithuania / Saturday, September 24, 20:00

Romania – Austria / Tuesday, September 27, 18:00.
