
Food from the churches was targeted by a 38-year-old man from Ioannina, who was arrested by the Corfu Security Directorate police for theft as well as drug possession.
A 38-year-old man was located and arrested in an area in southern Corfu when a police search, initially carried out in the car he was driving, found hacking tools, hoods and gloves, the amount of €777.07 and a number of gifts from believers in the form of chains, bracelets, crosses, earrings, various pendants and other gold items, which, as it turned out, he took out of the Holy Church in Moraitika, Corfu.
Subsequently, in the course of successive searches carried out both at his temporary residence in the south of Corfu by the officers of the Corfu Security Subdivision, and at his permanent residence, in the area of Ioannina, by the police of the Ioannina Security Subdivision, the directorate additionally found and seized funds in the amount of 1242 16 euros, a token for coins, some gold items from the cache of believers, as well as some raw hemp weighing 6.2 grams.
A preliminary investigation into the case was conducted by the Corfu Security Directorate, while the involvement of the 38-year-old man in other similar theft cases is being investigated.
