Two Air France pilots have been suspended after a fight in the cockpit during a Geneva-Paris flight in June, an airline spokesman said on Sunday.

The company said the flight proceeded normally despite the incident and that the pilots landed safely and the crash did not affect the flight, the official added.

According to the Swiss publication La Tribune, shortly after takeoff, tempers flared between the pilot and the co-pilot, and they began to fight.

A flight attendant soon intervened and one of the crew spent the flight in the cockpit to avoid further violence.

Air France pilots are suspected of failing to comply with safety regulations

The exploits of the rowdy pilots came to light after France’s aviation investigation agency published a report on Wednesday showing that some Air France pilots did not strictly follow procedures during safety incidents.

The report details a fuel leak on an Air France flight from Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo to Paris in December 2020, when the pilots turned the plane around but did not shut down the engine and land as quickly as possible. According to the procedure, that is why the engine could catch fire.

France’s air investigation agency cited three similar incidents between 2017 and 2022 and said some pilots acted based on their own assessment of the situation rather than safety protocols.

Air France said it operates thousands of flights a day and that the report mentioned only four such safety incidents.
