Ukrainian authorities have said that more grain is now being transported on the Danube than at any time since the beginning of the war six months ago.

Only on Saturday, 11 ships arrived at the ports of Izmail, Reni and Ust-Dunaysk on the Danube, loading a total of 45,000 tons of grain, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported on Sunday, the DPA and Agerpres agencies reported.

According to the ministry, more than four million tons of grain have already been transported abroad through Ukrainian ports on the Danube since March.

Since the start of the Russian attack, attention has focused on the major Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, which were blocked for several months, making it impossible to export millions of tons of grain.

Some grain shipments are diverted by more difficult routes

On July 22, Ukraine and Russia, through the mediation of the UN, signed an agreement with Turkey to allow exports from Ukraine through three Black Sea ports, reducing pressure on world food markets.

The coordination center in Istanbul, which was set up under the agreement, said at the weekend that one million tons of grain and other food resources had been exported so far via the Black Sea route. A total of 103 ships entered or left Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, part of the grain was diverted by more complicated routes, which involved the transit of transport vessels on the Danube to Romania or by rail.
