According to Reuters, Coco said she was Serena’s understudy for a Delta Air Lines commercial.

“When I first met Serena, she didn’t know it, I think I was nine or ten years old. They needed an understudy to play a younger version of her without seeing her face. I think it was for a Delta commercial. I don’t think they ever used photos, but that was my first check. She doesn’t know it, but I got the first money thanks to her, starring in an advertisement” – Coco Gauf.

Gauff also talked about how Serena Williams inspired her, how she inspired an entire generation of black players.

“During my childhood, I never thought that I was different. Because the number one player was just like me. I think that’s the most important thing I learned from Serena” – Coco Gauf.

In the first round of the US Open 2022, Coco Gauf will meet the Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean (149 WTA).
