The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Friday that it had rejected an appeal filed by Cardiff City, confirming the fact that the transfer of Emiliano Sala from Nantes was completed before the Argentinian’s death.
The appeal related to a decision made by the Office of the FIFA Players’ Status Committee on 25 September 2019.
Thus, the decision was confirmed, according to which FC “Cardiff City” must pay FC “Nantes” an amount of 6 million euros.
“The TAS procedures concern only the first tranche of the transfer amount of €6 million out of the total transfer amount of €17 million. Other payments had not expired at the time of FIFA’s trial.” TAS reports.
Cardiff City FC appealed to CAS on 20 November 2019.
Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala died on January 21, 2019 at the age of 28 after the plane he was flying in crashed in the English Channel. Sala was returning to Cardiff to join the team where he was transferred after a short visit to Nantes, where he flew on the same plane to say goodbye to his former colleagues, writes News.ro.
