Kalamaki Corinthia: questions about the drowned six-year-old girl

The father of a six-year-old girl who drowned last Monday in Kalamaki, Corinthia, was released yesterday under restrictive conditions after apologizing to investigators. He has been charged with fatal exposure of a minor. He claims he panicked when his daughter was lost at sea and didn’t dive in to rescue her because he suffers from asthma.

Her father has been charged with lethal exposure to a minor – he claims he didn’t dive into the sea to save her because he suffers from asthma.

On Monday afternoon, after lunch, the father and daughter tried to approach and board the boat, which was moored and about 15 meters away from Kalamaki beach, despite the fact that they did not have bathing suits with them and the six-year-old could not to swim. In a statement of apology filed by the father, he reportedly claims to have put a life jacket on his daughter. When they got to the boat, according to what he had so far claimed, he tried to get the girl on board, but she slipped, got out of her life jacket, and ended up under the boat.

The father is reported to have claimed that he did not dive into the sea to help her because his asthma made him unable to hold his breath and called for help, but there was no answer. A few minutes later, a man diving with a mask and snorkel noticed a six-year-old girl right under the boat, saw her moving her arms and legs, pulled her to the surface and provided first aid. The snorkeler reported that due to bad weather the water was cloudy, he saw that the girl was dressed in clothes and sandals, and the depth at the place where the boat was located was up to seven meters. “When I found the child, the boat was 10-15 meters from the shore. There was no one on the beach, there was only me, my wife, another neighbor who sat for a while and left,” he said. An EKAB ambulance drove to the scene, and two rescuers tried in vain to return it. The unconscious girl was taken to Corinthian hospital, where she was pronounced dead. In the presence of the investigator, the father allegedly repeated that he had chronic health problems, and therefore he did not dive into the sea. The 2nd Port Department of Isthmium of the Port Authority of Corinth requested an autopsy.
