
Ioan Buku, a former goalkeeper of Iasi Polytechnic and Dynamo Bucharest, as well as the Romanian national team, has died at the age of 66, a group from Copou has announced.
Buku was born in Cevennes, Botosani district, and started playing football for the local team “Tractorul”.
Under the tutelage of his father, Ioan Buku came to Iaşi to study and it didn’t take him long to become a goalkeeper for the Copou team.
“Undeniable qualities attracted the attention of selectors, and Ioan Buku got into the national teams. He made his debut for the tricolor in Turkey in 1978, then defended the goal for Romania at the 1979 Universiade, which was hosted by Mexico. In 1985, he was transferred to “Dynamo” Bucharest, and in 1988 he returned to “Poli”.
After the end of his sports career, he worked in the administration, was the head of the football section in the Yesi club, as well as the director of the Sports and Youth Department of Iasi County.” The Iesian Club also specifies.
