Ana Bohdan advanced to the second round of qualifying for the US Open 2022, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, on Tuesday after defeating Anna-Lena Fridsam (207 WTA).

Currently ranked 65th in the world, Bohdan won in three sets against the athlete from Germany with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted two hours.

Although she lost the first set, Ana made an impressive comeback, breaking four times and surrendering just one service game.

  • In the next match, Ana (the main favorite of the qualification) will play Fernanda Contreras Gomez (201 WTA), after the Mexican beat the Iberian Andrea Lazaro Garcia (226 WTA), the score 6-3, 3-6, 6 -1.
  • Romania is represented by three more athletes in the first round of qualification. Iryna Bara (126 WTA) will play against the American Kayla Day (211 WTA), Oleksandra Kadantsou-Ignatik (160 WTA) will meet Alicia Parks (USA, 150 WTA) and Gabriela Lee-Talaba (137 WTA) will play Sara. Errani (117 WTA).
  • Simona Halep (7 WTA), Iryna Begu (34 WTA), Sorana Kirstea (38 WTA) and Jacqueline Christian (76 WTA) are directly admitted to the main draw at the US Open 2022.

The US Open main draw will take place on Thursday, August 25.

From August 29 to September 11, New York will host the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. The champions of the title are Daniil Medvedev and Emma Reducanu.
