
For the last day, 5,659 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Romania, which is 3,060 more than the previous day. The most new cases were registered in Bucharest – 733, but the rate of infection in the capital is constantly decreasing and for the first time in recent weeks it fell below the threshold of 5 per thousand – to 4.99 per thousand.
1,131 of the new cases in 24 hours were re-infected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the initial infection.
In contrast to newly confirmed cases, 276 people tested positive again after retesting patients who had already tested positive.
The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is decreasing
In specialized medical institutions, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 3,309, which is 271 less than the previous day. Also, 249 people were hospitalized at the ATZ, which is 4 less than the previous day. Of the 249 patients admitted to the HTI, 209 are unvaccinated.
Of the total number of hospitalized patients, 387 are minors, 383 in the ward, which is 78 less than the previous day, and 4 are in the intensive care unit, 2 less than the previous day.
47 deaths in the last day
From the beginning of the pandemic to today, 66,547 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.
Between 22/08/2022 (10:00) and 23/08/2022 (10:00) INSP reported 47 deaths (28 males and 19 females), with no deaths reported prior to the reference interval.
Out of 47 deaths, 1 was registered in the age category of 50-59 years, 10 in the age category of 60-69 years, 11 in the age category of 70-79 years, and 25 in the age category over 80 years.
All the deceased had concomitant diseases, 32 were unvaccinated.
How many Romanians were checked?
Over the last day, 4,563 RT-PCR tests were performed (2,959 by case definition and medical protocol and 1,604 by request) and 21,089 rapid antigen tests.
From the beginning of the pandemic to this date, 13,399,806 RT-PCR tests and 11,128,185 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
