The United States condemned Monday’s explosion that killed Daria Dugin, the daughter of Oleksandr Dugin, who is considered an ideologue of Vladimir Putin, and stressed that Ukraine denies any responsibility for the attack, EFE reports.
“We condemn attacks on civilians, whether in Kyiv, Buch, Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Mariupol or Moscow. This principle applies all over the world,” US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press conference.
Price said that the Russians would “conduct an investigation” of what happened, and when asked about Moscow’s accusations that Ukrainian special services were responsible for the death of Daria Dugina, he limited himself to emphasizing that “Ukraine denied involvement” in the attack, notes Agerpres.
The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB, formerly KGB) said on Monday that the attack on Dugin’s daughter was “prepared and carried out by Ukrainian special services.” According to the official note, the terrorist act was committed by a citizen of Ukraine, identified as 43-year-old Natalia Vovk.
Ukraine had denied any link to the attack a day earlier and did so again on Monday after accusations from Russia.
“Russian propaganda lives in a fictional world (…) A woman (Ukrainian) and her 12-year-old child were “placed” responsible for blowing up propagandist Dugina’s car. It is surprising that the “Estonian visa” was not found on the spot. (…) Vipers from the (Russian) special services started a fight between species,” Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the President of Ukraine, wrote on Twitter.
Darya Dugina died on Saturday evening after the explosion of the car she was driving. She was in the west near Moscow with his father. Oleksandr Dugin was going to leave there with his daughter in one car, but at the last moment he changed his mind and drove in another car.
The US demands that Russia return control of the Zaporizhia NPP to the government in Kyiv
In addition, at a meeting held last week at State Department headquarters, the United States asked the Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, to return control of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to the Ukrainian government.
A State Department official confirmed to the media on Monday that the meeting took place last Thursday at headquarters in Washington, although he did not specify who Antonov met with. At this meeting, the American administration drew Ambassador Antonov’s attention to the “risks of an escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine” and asked Moscow to “cease all military actions around the Ukrainian nuclear power plant.”
In addition, Washington officials insisted that Russian forces return “total control” of the Zaporizhzhia plant to the Ukrainian authorities. The Russian military seized the nuclear power plant on March 4.
Since then, according to the Ukrainian government, Russian troops and heavy military equipment have been stationed at the plant, which they used as a weapons depot.
Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear company Energoatom announced on Tuesday that Russian forces had pulled two more armored personnel carriers and six trucks into the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant located in the Russian-occupied town of Energodar, The Kyiv Independent reported.
The security of the Zaporizhzhia plant has become one of the most serious problems of the international community since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in the context of several bombings in the region, attacks for which Russians and Ukrainians blame each other.
