Greek-Turkish: Ankara insists on overflights

In their tactics flights Ankara insists. Two pairs of Turkish F-16s entered the Athens FIR today without providing a flight plan, violated national airspace, and then:

  • The first Turkish pair flew over Divuniya, northwest of Kasos Karpathos, at 27,000 feet at 10:57 and
  • three minutes later a second pair of Turkish F-16s flew over Kamilonisi, northwest of Kasos Karpathos, also at 27,000 feet.

It is noted that these two islets were declared by the European ecological network NATURA 2000 as a special protection area for Falco eleonorae.

In all cases, Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted by the respective Greek fighters in accordance with international regulations, in accordance with standard tactics, as announced by the Greek Ministry of Defense.

Provocative statements by Cavusoglu

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused Athens of propaganda against Ankara.

In his statements, according to the Turkish media TRT, he stated that Greece “should stop black propaganda against Turkey”, while claiming that Athens “violates the rights of the Turks of Western Thrace”, as well as the status of the demilitarized islands.

He also said that Turkey does not allow Greece and Cyprus to the continental shelf of his country, while noting that the drilling rig “Amdul Hamit Khan” has begun its work and stressed that “the basis for solving the problem is a fair distribution of resources.”
