Sofia Kenin cruised past Dalaina Hewitt, 6-4, 6-3, to face Irina Begu (34 WTA) on Wednesday, starting at 1:30 (Romanian time).
This year, the American collected only 11 matches, and the victory over Hewitt was the first since January after eight defeats in a row.
Begu and Kenin have never met before on the WTA circuit.
Sorana Kirstea will play against Magda Lynette in the 1/8 finals of WTA Cleveland
Sorana Kirstya (38 WTA) will play in the round of 16 against Poland’s Magda Lynette (67 WTA), also on Wednesday night, after Irina Begu’s match.
Kirstya and Lynette have met four more times in direct matches, the Romanian leads with a score of 3-1.
The last direct match took place in May 2021 in Strasbourg, in the semi-finals Kerstya won with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
