Case materials on an unprecedented incident that occurred in the city of Crete on Friday, when two citizens chased, ran over and nearly ran over a family of German tourists with their car.

It all happened on Friday afternoon: a German family – a father, two sons and a daughter – were in a rented car and moved to Perama Mylopotamos. Suddenly, two Cretans left a country road in an agricultural vehicle and crashed into a German vehicle, causing minor damage.

The driver of the rental car signaled them and asked them to stop to exchange information.

However, the driver of the rural car began to beat the young German in the passenger seat through the window and then opened the door, continuing to beat him. Another young German got out of the car and hit the attacker to protect his brother.

Then a passenger from the village council got out of the car, holding a knife with a 20-centimeter blade in his hands.

The frightened tourists got into their car and tried to drive away, but the two attackers did not stop there. Instead, they began to pursue them and “drive” the rented car for a distance of two kilometers, that is, to the crowded center of Perama at that time.

In fact, the agricultural machine overtook the rented car and ended up in front of it. He then literally drove into a parked car while the German family was still inside.

The Guilty Wanted – Intervention of Theodorikakos

The family filed a lawsuit with AT Mylopotamos, two alleged perpetrators were identified, but they were not arrested even after the curfew, which was in effect until midnight Saturday.

Cases have already been filed against two Cretans for violating the law on weapons, damaging foreign property and simply causing bodily harm.

The local community of Mylopotamos is calling for the perpetrators to be arrested and held accountable under the law, while the incident also sparked intervention Minister for the Protection of Citizens Takis Theodorikakos, who contacted local authorities to be informed of the case and responded a strong recommendation for immediate mobilization to bring the perpetrators to justice.

At the same time, new facts are revealed when EL.AS. announced a search for the purpose of detaining criminals. The police are waiting for their surrender, accompanied by a lawyer.

Local government representatives are planning to meet and discuss the problems that arise in connection with such unacceptable and dangerous behavior, as well as a meeting with the family.

What do German tourists say?

Speaking to the ERT camera, they stressed that all they expect is the arrest of the criminals and especially the driver of the vehicle, who attacked them with a knife and chased them in his rural car, in the crowded Perama, and he did not hesitate. get into a rented car in reverse, attack them again with a knife. They even emphasize that they are afraid to leave the hotel while the criminals are walking free.

One of the sons of a German family told ERT: “It was like a gunman, I can’t describe to you how terrible this incident was and how threatened my life I felt when he moved towards me with a knife. Seeing my sister crying made me instinctively want to protect her, but there is little you can do when faced with a knife. It was a real shock.”

When asked by another son about how they feel about our country, Crete, and whether they will visit it again in the future, he replied that the incident showed him insecurity in the system. “If I come to Greece again, I would like to make sure that the two criminals are brought to justice, and especially the one who attacked us, I want him to be imprisoned.”
