Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine has turned into a “nightmare scenario” for him, the former head of the British army, General Lord Richard Dunnatt, told Sky News, The Guardian reports.

Russia’s current war in Ukraine is not going the way the Kremlin leader hoped, the ex-chief of the British army said.

Lord Richard Dunnatt explained that Russian forces had to “recalibrate” what they were doing because they were unable to achieve a quick victory over the Ukrainian army.

“I think that the war unfolded in a completely different way than Vladimir Putin imagined. This is probably his worst case scenario, his nightmare scenario,” said the British general.

“If we go back six months to February 24… what he had in mind and what the international press was waiting for was a lightning strike from Belarus to Kyiv to overthrow the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, change the regime in Kyiv, change the government. of Ukraine, and that’s all, Ukraine would be under the control of Russia,” he continued.

“But of course it didn’t happen. It meant the Russians had to readjust what they were trying to do,” Lord Dunnatt added.
