​Over the last day, 2,599 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Romania, which is 534 more than the previous day. The most new cases were registered in Bucharest – 438, but the rate of infection in the capital is sharply decreasing – 5.2 per thousand.

“The level of occupancy of beds both in the intensive care unit and in other departments of medical institutions remains low. All heads of medical units that serve patients with COVID-19, according to the resilience plan, after the reduction. the number of cases is registered and they can reduce the number of allocated beds, thus providing more beds for patients with other pathologies,” said Adriana Pistole, secretary of state for the Ministry of Health, at a press conference from Monday.

The 462 new cases in 24 hours were from reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after initial infection. In contrast to new confirmed cases, 154 people were confirmed positive after retesting patients who had already tested positive.

Over 3,500 hospitalized patients with COVID-19

In specialized medical institutions, the number of people hospitalized in the COVID-19 departments is 3,580, which is 165 more than the previous day.

253 people were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, which is 15 less than the previous day. Of the 253 patients admitted to the HTI, 215 are unvaccinated.

Out of the total number of hospitalized, 467 are minors, 461 were hospitalized in inpatient hospitals, which is 43 more than the previous day and 6 in HRM, as well as the previous day.

10 deaths in the last day

To date, 66,500 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 have died.

Between 21/08/2022 (10:00) and 22/08/2022 (10:00) INSP reported 10 deaths (7 males and 3 females), with no deaths reported prior to the reference period.

Out of 10 deaths, 1 was registered in the age category of 10-19 years, 1 in the age category of 60-69 years, 3 in the age category of 70-79 years and 5 in the age category over 80 years.

All the deceased had concomitant diseases and 9 were unvaccinated.

How many Romanians were checked?

Over the last day, 1,774 RT-PCR tests were performed (1,267 based on case definition and medical protocol and 507 on request) and 10,047 rapid antigen tests.

From the beginning of the pandemic to this date, 13,395,243 RT-PCR tests and 11,107,096 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
