An MP elected in the region of Crete violated the double dividing line while driving on a BOAK in the area of Koilaris in Chania.

The police applied the penalties prescribed by law, that is, the removal of numbers and a fine.

In the corresponding announcement, which was republished by EL.AS. – reports the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete:

“The incident occurred at noon yesterday, Saturday, August 20, 2022, on the northern axis of Crete, at 18.5 km. Chania-Rethymno. The arrested police officers found a violation of the double dividing line (traffic in the opposite direction) by a car driven by a member of parliament elected in the region of Crete, without permission to register the vehicle at the time of the check. In the incident in question, applicable law and the provisions of the Q.O.K. violations identified by the police.

What is the deputy’s answer?

The MP involved in the incident is Mr. Nikos Igoumenidis, elected from SYRIZA in Heraklion.

He disclosed this fact in his statement, where he leaves points for the attitude of the police and for the statement of the Chania Prefectural Police Union regarding the incident.

Among other things, the MP from SYRIZA asks three questions:

“1. How did you know that you were mentioning in your bulletin? Is this a newsworthy event? Is there anything else that I don’t know about, but do you, as absentees, know that required your announcement?

2. In fact, what is the position of your current union on the parastatal surveillance that plagues the country, or maybe for you they are not gone forever?

3. There was a fight on the left to end the period when right-wing party leaders extorted and threatened Greek citizens with unprofitable transfers.”

Theodorikakos reaction

The Minister for Civil Protection continued in a private message, Takis Theodorikakoswith the Director General of the Crete Regional Police, Major General Libinakis Georgios, about the incident.

The Minister stated that “nothing should be changed regarding the agenda and penalties imposed on the deputy.” Characteristically, he said that “the deputies are the first to obey the laws.”
